I know what you’re thinking… It’s April!!! How can you judge the quality of a draft pick after only 3 full weeks of baseball?! Well Anthony, it’s quite simple.
Truth is I’m bored and think it would be an interesting exercise for all of us. By no means do I feel these results to be a finished product, rather a living document. The winners and losers are not based on pure talent; they have been selected based on where I see a manger getting the most value and vice versa. Without further adieu here are the winners and losers of the 2017 RE2PECT Draft.

It’s hard to pick a winner or loser from this list. Regardless of how some of these horses have performed so far, their pedigree leaves owners feeling confident. Betts and Machado haven’t been themselves but they will be fine.
WINNER: Joe’s Fine Team: Bryce Harper OF
On draft day with the 8th pick overall, I never expected Bryce to be there. Not only because its an OBP league, but because of how much love there is for this guy in our league. I’m pretty sure there’s more to the story of Jake being one and done as a grounds crew member in Washington. I digress; Bryce has been all I hoped for, please just stay healthy and become a Yankee.
LOSER: The John Rockers: Mookie Betts OF
Again it’s a living document. I don’t deny Mookie’s ability as a player but there was a lot of pre-draft buzz for Betts. Many sites had him ranked 2nd overall. I personally couldn’t justify taking him before 7th,but that’s just me. As much as it pains me as a Yankee fan, Mookie can really produce. Although most saw the decline in power coming, he still can fill up the stat sheet on a consistent basis making him even more valuable in head to head format. He’ll be just fine but sorry CJ you lose this round.
SOLID BUYS: Everyone else

This is an ugly round. To me this round is not only ugly but also very interesting. It seems the mangers took some risk here. On draft day the safest pick was MadBum, but a freak dirt bike accident downed the durable farmer. (Check out Vin Sculley Bumgarner Snakes on YouTube. It’s all you need to know about this guy.) The rest have injury concerns, maturity issues, or just don’t belong. Stanton I’m looking at you.
WINNER: Obi Wan Canobi Charlie Blackmon OF
When do you think Charles Blackmon changed his name to Charlie? Do you think he told his manger Jim Tracey to write him into the lineup as Charlie when he debuted in 2011? I don’t know but to me he’s Chucky Blackmon for here on out. Playing in Coors inflates his power numbers and his speed is legit. That coveted combo of speed and power is what Anthony saw when he took Chuck 15th overall.
LOSER: Joe’s Fine Team Trea Turner SS
Let me remind you it is a LIVING DOCUMENT. He’s unproven and is now hurt. What he did in a limited sample size last year was impressive, but power regression was expected. He seems like a little punk that I would hate in real life. I’ll never admit I’m a little nervous but the potential in through the roof.
EDIT: He just completed the cycle in COL

Steroids are a hell of a drug. I feel for Marte. He didn’t know what he was taking. I’m sure if he knew that needle had something like steroids in it, he would have never let the trainer poke him with it. Can’t blame Team Wheels for the pick though. No one saw that coming. Not even Starling.
WINNER: The John Rockers: Max Scherzer SP
The guy is great. Kz for dayz, he’s a lock for 200+ strikeouts every year. In 2012 Max was inducted into the University of Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame, which some writers say propelled him to win two Cy Youngs in 2013 and 2016, becoming the 6th player in MLB history to win the award in both the American and National League. Great value ar 24th overall.
LOSER: Mike's Team: Xander Bogartes SS
University of Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame, which some writers say propelled him to win two Cy Youngs in 2013 and 2016, becoming the 6th player in MLB history to win the award in both the American and National League. Great value at 24th overall.
LOSER: Mike’s Team: Xander Bogaerts SS
One Happy Island. Did you know the X-Man is from Aruba? What a beautiful Place. Hes only the 6th Arubian born player to grace the MLB. Xnader is a perfect example of a guy that is much better in real life baseball than in fantasy. When you watch the guy, you know he can play, but why doesn't he steal more bags? The power is likely to drop off from last year, but hus run production will be there. He scored 115 runes in 2016 batting in front of Big Papi. (Am I crazy or does it look like Oritz and Bogaerts wear eye makeup??)
What's the return policy? Team Wheels: Starling Marte OF

Solid players litter the fourth round. It was offense heavy with Yu rounding out 40th overall. I was shocked to see Tim Tebow didn’t grab his boy Daniel at 31st overall, but I cant blame him for sitting down for Story time.
WINNER: Addison’s Creed: Yoanus Cespedes OF
There are few players that jump off the TV like Cespedes. A five-tool player, he is a delight to watch. I disagree with him wearing that bright yellow band but god it looks good on him. This selection really stands out to me. Nothing against the other players in this group but the Cuban defector is the kind of fantasy player that can win you weeks. I think a lot of us hoped to snag him in round 5 but Addison’s Creed wasn’t taking any chances.
LOSER: Obi Wan Canobi Kyle Seager 3B
I have nothing bad to say about this guy. Proven fantasy stud off to a slow start. Unfortunately for him this round is full of guys that are producing. Villar is certainly not living up to Team Wheel’s expectations but he is at least giving over a steal a week on average. My man Ky Seags will be fine but he still has yet to hit the long ball and chicks dig the long ball… as do I.
Am I missing something?... Yes I am: Mike’s Team: Christian Yelich OF

In my opinion Round 5 is where the premier talent truly drops. Players in rounds 1-4 are MVP caliber players. In round five you see teams panicking for pitching. A whopping five starters were taken. Does Addison Creed know Verlander doesn’t come with Kate Upton? Does he know Justin Upton has no relation to her? Have I identified a trend?
WINNER: Ethnic Kiss: A.J. Pollock OF
We all remember the shattered elbow in spring training last year. The thought of breaking my elbow scares the shit out of me and for that reason Pollock was off my board. He was hurt in 2014 and most of 2016 and that certainly dropped his value in our draft. After 3 weeks of the season Allen Lorenz Pollock (Don’t ask me where AJ comes from) is paying dividends to the Kiss of Ethnicity.
LOSER: Team Wheels: Jose Abreu 1B
Behind Joe Altuve, Joe Abreu leads the league in hits with 548 (since 2014). The guy can flat out hit. Hits for decent average solid OBP crushes homers and has had 100+ RBIs every year since the defection in 2013. Jose burst onto the scene in 2014. No doubt he be better than this but he’s 30 going on 36. Streaky guy off to a slow start. Sorry Team Wheels you don’t deserve this loss but I cant handle putting Gary here. Get better soon young man.
Best ears: Rougned Odor 2B
